Our Story

Pickleball Essentials was created on 1st June 2015 by Sharon and Murray Fleet, who recognised there would be a growing need for Pickleball equipment in New Zealand. The introduction of Pickleball to Rotorua and New Zealand was inspired by a local Rotorua couple who had played this fun game in America and their wish to support the Rotorua Badminton Hall by introducing a new club and Pickleball to Rotorua and around New Zealand. The Pickleball Rotorua Steering Committee was formed, and the Rotorua Club officially started in August 2015, operating out of the Rotorua Badminton Hall and attracting good numbers of players.

Sharon has been instrumental in the growth of Pickleball in New Zealand. She was involved in the inaugural setup of PNZA (Pickleball New Zealand Association) in May 2015. At the PNZA’s first AGM on 7th October 2018, she was elected Chairperson, holding this position for three years. In 2021, she transitioned into the Treasurer’s role for a year before stepping down from the Board in 2022 to focus on further developing Pickleball Essentials.

We see Pickleball as having huge potential in New Zealand, and by providing affordable, good-quality Pickleball equipment and excellent service, we will be helping to grow the sport in New Zealand.

We are already experiencing steady growth in sales and are adding more products and resources to our range all the time.
