Meaning of the Design
1. The koru, in this abstract form, symbolises Aotearoa with the blue and green hue, land surrounded by the ocean and sea. It also represents growth and strength. The red koru is a symbolism of life and interconnection – we flow as one.
2. The triangular figures are the Taniko or Tukutuku form of Niho Taniwha and at the base of the red koru is the weaved form of Niho Taniwha. They are a symbol of our rich culture and the emergence of Pickleball as sport which is growing from its beginnings here in Aotearoa in 2015. They represent strength and resilience.
3. Unaunahi, the form flowing from the curve of the koru is a symbol for fish scales, which means to flow through water with agility. It represents abundance and health. This could also be the Pakati design, which symbolises warriors, battles, courage and strength and can be interpreted as competing, competition, and having the courage and strength to win, be it a match, a tournament or just the participation.
4. The background colour from yellow at the base to dark blue at the top of the paddle represents sunrise.
